How long does it take for the oil to dry?
It depends.
How long it takes for our premium wood elixir to dry depends entirely on the situation. However, 24 hours is a guideline.
Does it always take at least 24 hours?
No. In most cases, premium wood elixir dries much faster. The drying time is highly dependent on the amount you have applied to the wood surface and the type of wood. Generally speaking, the denser the wood, the longer the drying time. For example, spruce wood can be cured after just 6 hours, while wenge needs 24 hours. The thickness of the application also has an enormous influence on the drying time. The thicker the coat, the longer the drying time. It is therefore extremely important that only a thin layer of premium wood elixir is applied at any one time. However, the basic rule of thumb applies: The time at which the oil can no longer be perceived as moist, oily or sticky + 6 hours as the time at which the oil has hardened.
and if it is not dry after 24 hours?
If the premium wood elixir is still moist or sticky after 24 hours, there are a few sources of error to consider.
Has too thick a layer been applied? If so, grab a clean cloth and wipe the wooden surface thoroughly but gently. You have now removed the excess oil. The drying period begins again.
Does the wood surface have sufficient air supply? The oils in premium wood elixir dry by means of oxidation. This requires a constant supply of air. For example, the oil cannot harden in closed drawers.
Was the wood previously varnished? If the wood was previously varnished and you have not removed this layer of varnish, the oil cannot penetrate the wood.
